Locks Restaurant and Bar

Looking out at our surroundings, it is easy to see why we chose ‘THE LOCKS’ as the name for our Restaurant and Bar.


The Holiday Inn was built in 1995, but it wasn’t the first hotel on this site. The original hotel was finished in 1801 and was named the Canal Tavern Inn. With gardens, bathing huts and shooting buts, it was used by passengers on the steam packets from Liverpool to Chester.
So relax in our contemporary surroundings, choose some delicious items from our menu and watch the boats making their journey along our historic canal.

A la carte menu

Our Head Chef has developed this mouth-watering menu which caters for all tastes. Firm favourites, such as JW Lees beer battered haddock , ‘The Classic’ burger and Chargrilled Gammon and Egg are joined by some stunning dishes, such as Sea bass on a cassoulet of spinach, mixed beans and new potatoes.


Always make sure you leave space for dessert, Tangy Lemon Posset with homemade shortbread is delightful, or a classic Sticky Toffee Pudding with salted caramel ice cream are dishes you can’t miss.

Indulge in sweet creations alongside a selection of finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and preserves.

Baked salmon on crushed new potatoes, green beans and a spinach sauce.

Chicken and spinach Balti with naan bread and rice.

Freshly cut fruits soaked in a light fruit syrup
